If you're gearing up to see Ridley Scott's sci-fi flick for the first time, make sure you're well-versed in its extraterrestrial lingo.

If you're headed out to theaters this weekend to see Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," there are two likely explanations: You've been hounded by your friends who have already seen it with theories and a need for discussion or you're one of those friends and need to see it again.
Either way, "Prometheus" is a dense movie filled with symbolism, call-backs to the original "Alien," and mysteries with elliptical answers, so it might be best to go into the theater with a bit of a primer for what's about to happen.
Whether you're new to "Prometheus" or you're very familiar with the work of Weyland Industries, here are some things to consider before heading into the theater. There are no major spoilers here, but if you want to go into "Prometheus" completely fresh, you should probably stop reading.
Prometheus: The titan who molded man from clay and gave them fire, which he stole from the gods. As punishment, an eagle repeatedly ate his liver, which regenerated daily.
Weyland Industries: The corporation that funds the mission in "Prometheus," creators of the David 8 android, and antecedent to the Weyland-Yutani Corporation from the "Alien" films.
Peter Weyland: Founder of Weyland Industries, played by Guy Pearce.
David 8: An android programmed to assist human life and understand human emotions. He is played by Michael Fassbender in "Prometheus."
Xenomorph: This classic creature from "Alien" bleeds a corrosive acid. It is "a survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality." The perfect organism.
Space Jockey: An enormous, dead humanoid found at the beginning of "Alien" with his chest burst open, surrounded by xenomorph eggs.
Facehugger: A developmental stage of the classic "Alien" xenomorph. This creature attaches itself to a host's face and deposits an embryo in his or her stomach.
Chestburster: The phase after facehugger. Once an embryo fully develops, it will exit its host through the abdomen.
"Lawrence of Arabia": The 1962 David Lean film starring Peter O'Toole as T.E. Lawrence. This film appears in "Prometheus" and is the origin of such quotes as "Big things have small beginnings," "There is nothing in the desert and no man needs nothing," and "The trick, William Potter, is not minding that it hurts."
LV223: An Earth-like moon where scientists travel to in "Prometheus" after finding star maps on several prehistoric drawings.
LV426: An inhospitable planetoid where the crew of the Nostromo encounter the Space Jockey and the xenomorph eggs.

Britney Spears admits the other judges 'ganged up' on her when they disagreed with her critique of a contestant.
By John Mitchell
<P>"The X Factor" judges <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lovato__demi/artist.jhtml">Demi Lovato</a>, L.A. Reid and Louis Walsh, the British "X Factor" panelist who has been sitting in for Simon Cowell while he recovers from bronchitis, are in Kansas City, Missouri, as auditions for the second season of the reality singing competition continue. The group gave <a href="http://www.toofab.com/2012/06/11/britney-spears-x-factor-bizarre-auditions-exclusive-video/" target="_blank">their first interview</a> since Spears and Lovato were announced as judges at the Fox upfronts.</P><P>The judges discussed the "bizarre" performances they've seen, how they get along, whether Spears' and Lovato's careers as performers make them more sympathetic or critical of the contestants, and the one time everyone ganged up on Britney.</P><P>"I feel like we've had a little bit of bizarre performances overall," Spears said of the Kansas City performances. "There have been some good ones, but for the most part, there's been some that were pretty bad!"</P><P><img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://c.gigcount.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.11NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEzMzk*NTY5MzE5MjMmcHQ9MTMzOTQ1NjkzNTI*MiZwPSZkPSZnPTImbz1jMGY3ZmFmYjY*OTU*MTQzYTBjYWM1Zjdh/NjVlM2ZhMiZvZj*w.gif" /><object name="kaltura_player_1339456930" id="kaltura_player_1339456930" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" allowNetworking="all" allowFullScreen="true" height="260" width="460" data="http://cdnapi.kaltura.com/index.php/kwidget/wid/0_3t3vyk0o/uiconf_id/48502"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowNetworking" value="all" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><param name="movie" value="http://cdnapi.kaltura.com/index.php/kwidget/wid/0_3t3vyk0o/uiconf_id/48502"/><param name="flashVars" value=""/></object></P><P>Reid admitted that he and Spears "get along good," but that much like Cowell, Walsh has been the quippy thorn in Reid's side.</P><P>Luckily for Walsh, though, he does get along with the two women judges. "Britney likes me and Demi likes me," he said.</P><P>Asked which judge the rest of the team tends to agree with the most, Reid said that Spears has the best eye for contestants that have that special something. "We tend to agree with Britney more than others. Honestly, I'm being funny, but she has amazing taste."</P><P>"You ganged up on me one time though," Spears quickly countered, half-jokingly. "You three guys did. One time, [and] it wasn't nice!"</P><P>"One time out of 75 auditions, that's not bad," Reid replied.</P><P>As for what makes Spears happiest when judging, she said, "It's the best feeling when someone comes onstage and just makes us want to stand up and gives us energy."</P><P>Having made their names as entertainers, both Spears and Lovato admitted that their careers have helped them relate to the contestants because they've "been in their shoes." But it's a double-edged sword because it has made both judges more sympathetic to the show's contestants, particularly when they have to deliver bad news.</P><P>"It's something I've definitely had to learn. At first, I really didn't even want to do it," Lovato said of having to criticize contestants. "It's easier to say, when you're having meetings with people, 'Oh yeah, it will totally come easy,' or something. But when I got in the seat and had to give negative criticism to somebody ... it sucks. But they're asking for your advice, and by stepping on that stage, they also know that you could not like their performance. They're taking a chance, and I'm going to take a chance by telling them something that I believe."</P><P>The interview comes on the heels of news that all four judges <a href="/news/articles/1687014/britney-spears-demi-lovato-x-factor-auditions.jhtml">walked off the set</a> after a disastrous audition in which a contestant — who reportedly wasn't a particularly talented singer — sang with his back to the panel. "It was really awkward," a source told <a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20602844,00.html" target="_blank">People.com</a>. "They didn't want to waste their time."</P><P><a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20602881,00.html?xid=rss-topheadlines" target="_blank"><i>People</i></a> also reported that Spears is proving to be a tougher judge than many expected. A source told the magazine, "She's got a really good instinct, and when she loves something, she looks like she wants to dance on the desk. When she doesn't like someone, she is incredibly tough."</P><P>For her part, the pop star insists her firm stance is in the best interest of the contestants. "It's all tough love ... I promise!" Spears <a href="https://twitter.com/britneyspears/status/212289663422042112" target="_blank">tweeted</a> along with a link to the <i>People</i> article.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears Explains Why She Wanted To Be A Part Of 'X Factor'" id="vid:769620" width="415" height="255"></div><p></p>

Adam Sandler's return to hard-R-rated territory is gloriously grotesque, according to reviews.
By Josh Wigler
Andy Samberg and Adam Sandler in "That's My Boy"
Photo:
If reviews of "That's My Boy" make one thing clear, it's this: Adam Sandler's return to hard-R-rated territory is gloriously grotesque. Whether or not that's your cup of tea (or flaming bag of feces, for you "Billy Madison" fans) is another matter entirely.
Sandler shares leading-man duties with recent "Saturday Night Live" expat Andy Samberg in "That's My Boy," a comedy that puts the two in a father/son relationship despite the mere 12-year age gap between the comedians. The goofiness of the film's premise pales in comparison to the gross-out gags and countless cameos found within the movie itself — a fact that has reviewers split down the middle. But the vast majority of "That's My Boy" reviews agree that this is Sandler at his filthiest; a side of the comedian that fans haven't seen in years, which should come as welcome news to those pining for the glory days of Happy Madison and Sandler's early comedy albums.
Keep reading for a sampling of "That's My Boy" reviews:
The Story
"The movie begins at full regression, with the younger version of Sandler's character, Donny Berger, seduced by his Mary Kay Letourneau-like math teacher (Eva Amurri Martino, looking like Amy Fisher). After their tryst is exposed at an assembly with the message 'some have greatness thrust upon them,' Donny montage-morphs into a celebutard with his own book (Head in the Class) and TV movie. Decades later, to pay off the IRS, he's enjoined to engineer a TV reunion featuring the estranged, Xanax-popping, spare-underwear-carrying product of this outrageously inappropriate union, a hedge-fund manager (Andy Samberg) who's changed his name to Todd Peterson (birth name: Han Solo Berger) and is about to marry a possible gold-digger (Leighton Meester) on a tony New England estate." — Ben Kenigsberg, Time Out Chicago
Heartstrings, Hugs and Hurls
"It's my job to offer you that plot summary, and I apologize because it's an icky premise for a comedy. I must also report that 'Boy' gets way pervier — you can't unhear some of the stuff that's involved here. Weirdly, though, there's an undercurrent of sweetness in the film's father/son reconciliation theme. It contrasts surprisingly well with the escalating cascade of gross humor, which could be summed up as: fountain of urine, inappropriate masturbation, nakedness in public and 'What is Vanilla Ice doing in my room?' " — Chris Hewitt, Pioneer Press
Hard-R Territory
" 'That's My Boy' is Sandler's raunchiest movie — its approach to sex is enthusiastic and juvenile and the opposite of the squeamishness of 'Bucky Larson.' Three-ways are had with grandmothers, wedding dresses are defiled, sticky post-masturbatory tissues are flung everywhere and a late twist takes the film into what has to be new territory for a gross-out comedy." — Alison Willmore, Movieline.com
Samberg Unbound
"The truth is, even without pleasant surprises like Vanilla Ice and [Milo] Ventimiglia, I'm not sure I could ever truly hate a movie that features so much of the adorable Andy Samberg, who acts his little heart out as if this were Shakespeare in the Park. Having the past and present 'Saturday Night Live' cast members play father and son was a stroke of genius. I don't know if director Sean Anders (who co-wrote the deliriously stupid 'Hot Tub Time Machine') was directly responsible, but he certainly was lucky. Samberg plays Todd as a sort of manchild, as fresh as a daisy, as affable as a puppy. Compared to Sandler's Donny, who needs to be bathed, then fumigated, he's practically dewy. His chin dimple has never seemed so akin to a baby's bottom." — Mary Pols, Time
Final Verdict
"The gauge to any humor is whether or not it tickles your fragile funny bone, and in this regard, 'That's My Boy' succeeds. It's a gangly guilty pleasure experience that makes you feel foul for enjoying its obvious, out of control bravado. Sandler is terrific as the tacky center of attention and even with a bloated belly and bad mat of monkey fur hair-do, he's winning. Yes, some of the jokes fall very flat indeed and there's more F-bombs than in a Scorsese gangster flick, but the end result is genuine. Indeed, Sandler, more than anyone, has been guilty of turning the big screen comedy into a premise with no pay-off. 'That's My Boy' promises things you hope it won't deliver. When it does, you'll be ashamed of your reaction, but happy that Sandler has returned to his randy roots." — Bill Gibron, Pop Matters

Former Disney star talks to MTV News about 'taking risks' in her upcoming flick.
By Cory Midgarden
NEW YORK — Selena Gomez is all grown up. The former "Wizards of Waverly Place" actress has traded in her Mickey Mouse ears for a two-toned bikini and a whole lot of scandal in the upcoming "Spring Breakers."
"People will be a little shocked, I think," Gomez told MTV News while promoting her new self-titled fragrance in New York on Saturday. "I'm a little nervous about it but honestly it's a right step for me, I'm really proud of it."
Also shaking their squeaky-clean images in the flick are "Pretty Little Liars" star Ashley Benson and Disney alum Vanessa Hudgens. The film follows the girls as they head to Florida for spring break, where they find themselves behind bars after robbing a restaurant.
"I think as an actress it really challenged me," Gomez said. "All of the other actresses are also trying to prove themselves, so it was just really, really fun."
Although Gomez is taking more chances with both her acting and music, there is still one role that is a little too racy for the 19-year-old: "Fifty Shades of Grey."
"I know I'm taking risks but I don't think I could do that," she told MTV News. "That would be a little too much for me."
Gomez became familiar with the hot and heavy storyline after being approached to star in Funny or Die's "Fifty Shades of Blue."
"When they told me about the skit, I didn't know what ['Fifty Shades of Grey'] was about, so I started to read it and was like, oh, this is spicy, I thought it was good, it was intriguing," she said. "The skit was really funny."
So with all of this research under her belt, who does the 19-year-old think should play S&M-loving Christian Grey's object of affection? "Someone older should do that part," she replied.
What are your thoughts on a more mature Selena Gomez? Sound off in the comments below!

Big news in the land of reality tv....Both Chrissy Lampkin and Deion Sanders have announced new shows that they're working on. It's been suspected for a while, but actual confirmations have now rolled in. Get the deets inside....
Former "L&H" star Chrissy Lampkin recently revealed that she and fiance Jim Jones have landed their own reality tv show. She told VIBE, “Jimmy and I have our own show now. There’s definitely gonna be drama. We love each other but we don’t always see eye-to-eye."
She added, "We respect each other but just like any other relationship, it gets rocky.” said Chrissy who hasn't yet decided on a name for the show. “I really don’t know [the title yet]. I really wanted Me and Mrs. Jones but Kelis and Nas already used that,” she said.
But don't expect things to get physical on the new show. Chrissy seems to regret the more physical scenes from "L&H."
“It’s like why did I let them get me that angry? I feel like I can think circles around half of the situations that I allow myself to get angry at," Chrissy mused. "My wit and my vocabulary is enough to cut somebody down where I don’t have to get physical.”
In other tv news..........
Deion Sanders and Tracy Edmonds confirmed to "The Insider" today that they are indeed working on a reality show together. Deion and Tracey, who runs her own production company, say the show will focus on Deion's life and it will explore the drama with Pilar Sanders. Well....we already know how Pilar's fight night is gonna come up in the editing suite. Womp.

'I just think more men should be reading it,' Julianne Hough tells MTV News.
By Fallon Prinzivalli, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
It seems like the "Rock of Ages" stars are living up to the phrase "sex, drugs and rock and roll." Well, not the drugs part. But the stars are certainly onboard for a little S&M with "Fifty Shades of Grey."
When MTV News caught up with Julianne Hough, Malin Akerman, Diego Boneta and director Adam Shankman for Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week, where they brought us an exclusive look at their new film, we put them through a rapid-fire round of questioning. When asked to choose between "Fifty Shades" and "Hunger Games," Hough and Akerman revealed their pick in unison saying, "Fifty Shades of Grey!" before promptly giving each other a high-five.
"I just think more men should be reading it," Hough said. "I'm just saying."
Akerman agreed, letting us know why: "To know what to do."
The erotic novel follows the sadomasochistic relationship between billionaire tycoon Christian Grey and recent college graduate Anastasia Steele. It begins as a purely physical attraction, and the book has more than its fair share of steamy scenes. But as the couple become engrossed in each other, their sexual affair blossoms into a romance.
Boneta and Shankman, on the other hand, showed a gender divide when they both said their preference is Suzanne Collins' dystopian thriller. Although, the director did reveal that he's one to judge a book by its cover.
"On the third book ['Fifty Shades Freed,' I] saw on the cover some handcuffs," he said, "so I might go with the third in the series."
Our other big question of the night was what movie or album the stars want a sneak peek of that doesn't currently exist.
"Oh, 'Dark Knight [Rises],' " Shankman immediately said throwing his hands up. "I mean, I saw 10 minutes of it. I'm just saying."
Boneta approved the director's movie pick and named his most anticipated album as U2's next endeavor.
"I'll go with 'Dark Knight' too," Akerman said of her movie choice. "This is great."
"Yeah, we're all 'Dark Knight'!" Julianne agreed.
There you have it, the hottest picks of the summer: "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Fifty Shades of Grey." Do you think Christian Bale could play Christian Grey?

We look at Britney's $15 million deal and what that kind of reality TV money can buy.
By Gil Kaufman
<P>$15 million. Sure, on the surface that number seems pretty gaudy, especially when you consider it's for <a href="/news/articles/1684813/britney-spears-x-factor-judge.jhtml">one season</a>

That might explain why Simon Cowell has gone all-in to get Spears to join him and L.A. Reid on the panel of "Factor" this fall. Spears had been rumored for the gig for months, but considering the low profile she's kept since her string of personal problems several years ago — which included a nearly-total retreat from interviews and unscripted public appearances — the idea of Britney agreeing to appear on live TV twice a week seemed remote.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears: I Am The Femme Fatale" id="id:1661123" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Cowell typically gets what he wants, though, and now the world is going to see more of Britney than we have since her late 1990s heyday. Sneak peek gives us a closer look at Quentin Tarantino's wholly original next film.
By Kevin P. Sullivan
Jamie Foxx in "Django Unchained"

You have never seen a cowboy movie quite like this. Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" is a western unlike any other. For starters, it doesn't take place in the Old West, but in the pre-Civil War South. Secondly, it stars Jamie Foxx as a freed slave, out to save his wife from servitude. But what else would you expect from Tarantino?
The first trailer from "Django Unchained" hit the Web on Wednesday (June 6), and we've taken the opportunity to break it down for you into our five key scenes.
Django Is Off The Chain
Right from the start of the first trailer, Tarantino lets us know how "Django Unchained" is going to handle slavery. While the auteur will obviously bring his own irreverent spin to the subject, he is not shying away from showing the ugliest parts of slavery. Once freed, Django stylishly throws off his worn-down blanket in ultra-cool slow-mo, but he reveals the scars and the reality of his captivity. The image perfectly captures how Tarantino strikes the balance between truth and style in what's sure to be a controversial film.
It's Good to Be King
But Django is only one half of a dynamic duo. His liberator, the dentist-turned-bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (notice the wordplay), is played by none other than Christoph Waltz, the scene stealer from Tarantino's last film, "Inglourious Basterds." Where Colonel Hans Landa was a merciless, if not reasonable, evildoer, Schultz is a simple-minded (but not dumb) kind soul, whose unfamiliarity with slavery makes him sympathetic to Django's struggle to save his wife. He is an ally to Django, and like Landa gets many of the film's best lines.
The Bloody Cotton
If one image had to capture what Tarantino is attempting to do with "Django Unchained," this would be it. This movie is the first of its kind, a "bloody Southern," Tarantino's own genre of sub-Mason-Dixon Western action. He's taking the look of the spaghetti Western something he experimented with in "Kill Bill" and "Inglourious Basterds" and transplanting it to the South during the time before the Civil War. It's an entirely original mash-up, the kind we've come to expect from Tarantino.
Leo Has Our Attention
Perhaps the biggest attention grabber of this whole affair is former teen heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio as an egotistical plantation owner. For all his great roles, DiCaprio has never played such a clear-cut villain, and it's clear he's having one hell of a time in the role of Calvin Candie, who owns slaves and uses them for prize fights to the death. Yeah, that doesn't sound like the Leo we know, and that's exactly why we can't wait.
The "D" Is Silent
Just in case you were wondering, you don't pronounce the "D." Jamie Foxx has only appeared in a handful of movies in the years following his Oscar win, but Tarantino has handed him a meaty and thrilling role that could very well lead to a comeback. His portrayal of Django is drastically toned down from Foxx's usual roles, as Django is a relatively quiet character. Needless to say, he does get his share of badass one-liners in the trailer, and we're just dying to hear more.
A fun fact about that last shot: it actually contains two Djangos. The man to the right of Foxx is Franco Nero, the man who starred in the spaghetti Western "Django," Tarantino's inspiration for the title.
