Kanye West Debuts Dark 'Lost In The World' Video
West unexpectedly rolls out a late visual for his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy track.

Kanye West works in mysterious ways. Just when it seemed like all of his creative energy would be funneled into his upcoming G.O.O.D. Music compilation, the mad genius jumps back two albums, finally dropping a video for "Lost in the World," from his critically acclaimed 2010 album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
Simply calling the new visuals from Kanye a "music video" might be a disservice, though, so let's say that 'Ye teamed up with fashion filmmaker Ruth Hogben to create a new mini movie. The black-and-white clip opens with a warning that "strobe effects are used in this video" — West clearly learned a lesson from the backlash that accompanied his "All of the Lights" video — before "Lost" flashes across the screen in a few different languages and, finally, the song's title is announced.
The dark clip plays up the desperation of the Bon-Iver-featured "Lost in the World," with a group of models dressed in sheer fabric (it wouldn't be a Kanye piece without some form of exposed skin) expressing their pain through dance.
West himself appears on a mirrored platform, which reflects the dark sky above, and as the video progresses, the looming structures overhead begin to part, revealing an ominous city skyline. During the drum-heavy breakdown at the end of the track, the models convulse into full synchronized dance, ending with one lingering shot of the pained expressions on their faces.
Kanye's aesthetic has continued to evolve over his last few projects, and this new clip seems to be an extension of the techniques he employed in the visuals for Watch the Throne's "N---as in Paris." The clip premiered on Friday (May 4) with no context, as Kanye's most recent releases are the G.O.O.D. Music singles "Mercy" and the "I Don't Like" remix, along with the solo track "Way Too Cold."
What do you think of Kanye's "Lost in the World" video? Tell us in the comments!

Britney Spears Would Be 'Great Fit' For 'X Factor,' Marcus Canty Says
'She would give me that pop I need,' last season's fourth-place finisher tells MTV News of rumored addition to judges' table.
By Christina Garibaldi
<P>During his final appearance on <a href="/news/articles/1676110/x-factor-marcus-canty.jhtml">"The X Factor," Marcus Canty</a> promised his fans it was "not over" for him yet, and he was right. The fourth-place finisher, who wowed viewers with his energetic stage presence and smooth R&B style, recently signed to Epic Records and has released his debut single, "Won't Make a Fool Out of You."</P><P>Yet at one time it seemed like we might never have heard his music at all. Before "X Factor" Canty tried but failed to get through the audition rounds for <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/topic/american_idol/">"American Idol."</a></P><P>"I tried 'American Idol.' I got in front of the judges, I sang my little heart out, but I guess I didn't make it," Canty revealed to MTV News. "I guess they didn't want me."</P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:754173/cp~vid%3D754173%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A754173" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></P><P>"Idol" may not have wanted Canty, but "The X Factor" did. With help from his mother, Canty reluctantly decided to step in front of the judges, hoping to get his chance to go to Hollywood.</P><P>"The funny thing is that I didn't want to do 'X Factor' at first. I was just like, 'Man, I'm gonna do it myself,' then I look on the bill and I see L.A. Reid, and I'm like, 'Wait a minute, that's L.A. Reid!' " Canty said. "For so long I've been trying to get music to him. When it came that time, my mom was like, 'Look, you should just try it."</P><P>With Reid as his mentor, Canty battled his way to a fourth-place finish with some show-stopping performances that gained him comparisons to Al Green and Bobby Brown.</P><P>Canty also developed relationships with the other judges on the show, including former mentors <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">Paula Abdul</a> and <a href="/news/articles/1678186/nicole-scherzinger-steve-jones-leaving-x-factor.jhtml">Nicole Scherzinger</a>.</P><P>"I actually was kind of surprised," Canty said of the departures of Abdul and Scherzinger. "I thought it was a lot of drama on the show with Paula and Nicole, but they were so nice."</P><P>Canty was no stranger to drama himself. The R&B crooner found himself in the bottom two during several episodes, most notably edging out <a href="/news/articles/1680940/rachel-crow-simon-cowell.jhtml">Rachel Crow</a> in an emotional and <a href="/news/articles/1675936/x-factor-rachel-crow-elimination-reaction.jhtml">controversial finish</a>.</P><P>"I feel like Paula was honest. I feel like Nicole was honest — even in certain situations on the show that they got into, with me and Rachel and at one point, me and Drew," Canty said. "If I was in that situation I probably wouldn't know what to do."</P><P>With Scherzinger and Abdul out of the judges' seats, rumors have been swirling that pop star <a href="/news/articles/1680782/britney-spears-x-factor-judge-offer.jhtml">Britney Spears may fill</a> one of the vacant spots.</P><P>"Oh wow, I haven't heard that one. Britney Spears, wow. That should be interesting," Canty said in response to the news. "Britney Spears can be my mentor because, first of all, I was the entertainer. I know she would give me that pop I need. That's definitely a great fit."</p>

<P>In anticipation of the epic season premiere of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/shows/dance_crew/season_7/series.jhtml">"Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew,"</a> MTV has been rolling out a few very extra special details via <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/mtv">Twitter</a>, the biggest one being that tonight's premiere will feature performances set to our favorite songs from pop princess <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>.</P><P>Spears <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/britneyspears/status/190197987526455298"> tweeted</a> out the good news herself. "Make sure you tune into #ABDC tonight on @MTV at 10/9C!" she wrote. Chasez. "It's a huge group now. When I saw Fanny Pak I think there were five members and now there are like eight or nine. I'm excited though because what I loved about Fanny Pak on the season they were on is that they don't rely strictly on their athleticism as dancers. They really work into the theme, they listen to what the music is saying."</P><P>"I love Fanny Pak," fellow judge Lil' Mama said. "I think that they're fantastic as a crew, and when you're alumni and have been through the ropes you know what to expect, it gets tougher as you go along so and people bring their A-game, so we're hoping they can last through to the end because they're a good crew."</P><P>This is the first time in the series' history a crew from a prior season will return to compete for the title. Rihanna 'Cried Laughing' At James Franco's Video
After seeing his take on 'You Da One,' Rihanna reveals she's in talks to appear alongside the actor in 'The Apocalypse.'

Rihanna and James Franco might want to get a room. These two have been gushing about one another all over the press — but, it's just business.
MTV News caught up with Franco at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where he opened up about almost being cast in Ri's "We Found Love" video and how the pair might eventually appear together in the flick "The Apocalypse." RiRi later revealed that she's just as big a fan of Franco's work as he is of hers. How big of a fan is he? Well, the actor recently released a viral video of himself lip-syncing "You Da One."
"I love James Franco," Rihanna told MTV News during "MTV First: Battleship." Referring to the online video of Franco singing his heart out to her Dr. Luke-produced Talk That Talk single, she added, "Someone sent this to me via Twitter, and I watched that. I cried laughing."
After learning that the frizzy-haired man in the clip was indeed the Oscar-nominated actor, Rihanna couldn't believe he knew her music that well. "First of all, I didn't recognize that it was him like that, and then I didn't recognize it was him singing my song," she said. "And it was kind of cool because I'm a huge fan of James Franco, so it was dope to know that he even knew my record."
About the chatter that she might appear with Franco in Seth Rogen's movie "The Apocalypse," well, that is still up in the air. But if she should join him, she might be playing one of the celebs partying at Franco's house when they learn the apocalypse is coming. "That's in the works," she said. "I can't really say. Nothing's confirmed, but it's open, and we're interested."
Check out everything we've got on "Battleship."

Dear Beyonce: Why We Love You Till The End Of Time
Above the Buzz pays homage to Queen B after the singer pens a few heartfelt letters to her own idols.
By Jocelyn Vena
<P>These days, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a> is breaking down her personal "fourth wall," letting fans into her life more and more, after living as a pop-star enigma for more than a decade.</P><P>She recently re-launched her website, began tweeting, <a href="/news/articles/1682565/beyonce-tumblr-personal-pics.jhtml">started a personal Tumblr</a> account and even <a href="/news/articles/1683546/beyonce-skypes-remix-contest.jhtml">Skyped with a contest winner</a> this week after her "End of Time" remix competition.</P><P>Somewhere in there, Blue Ivy's mama found the time to handwrite letters to several famous people and post them on her site. She <a href="http://www.beyonce.com/news/michelle-obama" target="_blank">shared</a> her warm, fuzzy feelings for some key figures, including First Lady Michelle Obama, the late New York artist <a href="http://www.beyonce.com/news/basquiat" target="_blank">Jean-Michel Basquiat</a> and <a href="http://www.beyonce.com/news/sade" target="_blank">R&B star Sade </a>. In honor of that, I decided to turn this week's <i>Above the Buzz</i> into a letter to Beyoncé, in the key of B, of course.</P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:724613/cp~name%3Dnews%26id%3D1676907%26vid%3D724613%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A724613" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER></P><P><i>Dear Beyoncé,<br> First off, I just want to say "Hey Girl!" You're truly an inspiration to girls everywhere. You represent ladies in a great way, what with your girl power anthems and messages of female independence.</P><P>And it seems these days, in spite of how busy you are, you're focused on <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/04/19/beyonce-back-to-school-new-york/">heading back to school</a>. Education is a really awesome message to spread to all the young women out there. Stay in school kids, right, B?</P><P>Next, I just want to let you know that I am still into <a href="/news/articles/1665479/beyonce-4-leak.jhtml"></i>4.<i></a> It's a pretty great album to just leave on repeat while I'm at work or just living life. I mean, those are some <i>jams</i> on there. And, not to quote you or anything, but you shared with Sade that her music helps you get through times, good and bad — well, back at you.</P><P>Also, you've been rocking some awesome street style recently. Those "cat" flats you donned a few weeks back have me dreaming of kitschy, animal-themed couture every night. I can only imagine the kind of crazy looks you are planning for the string of shows you have lined up <link type="content" id="1681308">next month in Atlantic City. I assume my tickets are in the mail?</P><P>Anyway, I don't want to take up too much of your time. I know you're busy being a mom and working on new music and probably prepping for your show and all, but if you and Jay-Z can make the time, I think I can pencil you guys in for dinner or whatever. I'm cool with wherever you guys pick. You know me, pretty easy-going and all. Alright then, talk to you later.</P><P>Your girl,<br> Jocelyn</i></P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a></p>

Rihanna 'Intimidated' By 'Battleship' Role
'I was walking into this as a complete amateur,' singer reveals in 'MTV First: Battleship.'
By Fallon Prinzivalli, with reporting by Josh Horowitz
As Rihanna begins her foray into the film industry, she's quickly becoming the queen of pop culture. She's a musical icon with millions of fans who worship her singing abilities and can't wait to see her acting debut in Peter Berg's "Battleship." But her devotees aren't the only ones itching to see what the musician has up her sleeve. During "MTV First: Battleship," her co-star Taylor Kitsch said he was excited to see her take on the role.
"Yeah, there's an excitement behind [working with Rihanna]. I was excited to see what you were going to do with [the part]," Kitsch said to the singer.
Rihanna chimed in, "I'll answer this, because it's probably uncomfortable for them to say no, but I was the one that was intimidated."
Wait, what? It's hard to imagine the singer intimidated by anything. With songs like "Rockstar 101" and "Who's That Chick?" and equally fiery music videos, Rihanna gives off a fierce persona and owns any project that comes her way. But she revealed that despite her ever-present nerves, she learned from the cast — particularly Kitsch, who offered advice as they worked on scenes.
"You know, we have a mutual respect for each other's industry," she said. "I was walking into this as an amateur — a complete amateur. I didn't know anything and I had a good team to learn from. I watched them, and especially Taylor, 'cause we did a lot of scenes together and he would always offer me advice."
And as for Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker and Kitsch having nerves around the successful chart-topper, Rihanna waves it off.
"There was nothing for them to be intimidated about. I was the wreck. I was a wreck, just like, scared to sh--," she said. "Especially when Liam Neeson showed up to set."
Let's see, Neeson has voiced an all-powerful lion for "Narnia," played Jean Valjean in "Les Misérables," was a Jedi Master in the "Star Wars" prequels and kicked some serious ass as he raced around Europe to save his daughter from sex trafficking in "Taken." Why would she ever be intimidated?
"He was intimidated by me," Rihanna joked.

Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball Kicks Off Amid Protests
Seoul, South Korea, set list heavy on new material, but Gaga's biggest hits come out to play.
By John Mitchell
<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> kicked off her hotly awaited <i>Born This Way</i> Ball at Seoul, South Korea's Olympic Stadium on Friday (April 27) in front of 45,000 fans, and despite <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17867102" target="_blank">protests</a> from Christian groups saying Mother Monster was "obscene" and could "taint" young people with her performance, the concert appears to have gone on without incident. </P><P> </P><P>Intrepid Twitter fans are already showing off pictures and video of the <i>BTW</i> Ball's enormous Gothic castle backdrop and myriad costume changes, making it clear that Gaga has outdone even her own Monster Ball in terms of spectacle. </P><P> </P><P>While we wait for reviews to trickle in from halfway around the world, one thing is certain: No minors were corrupted at the show. Earlier this month, the Korea Media Rating Board decided to <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2012/04/02/lady-gaga-unfazed-by-south-korean-concert-age-restrictions/">elevate the age rating</a> for the concert from 12 to 18, prohibiting minors from seeing the concert. When the board notified Gaga's tour promotion company and a sponsor of the change in age restrictions, it did not offer a reason why the show — which at the time was still in rehearsals and had not been reviewed publicly — was considered unsuitable for children under 18. </P><P> </P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:717952/cp~vid%3D717952%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A717952" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER> </P><P> </P><P>The likely catalyst for the board's decision came more into focus as the concert neared and protests from a group of conservative Christians calling itself the Alliance for Sound Culture in Sexuality ramped up. The group <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31749_162-57419977-10391698/lady-gagas-born-this-way-ball-met-by-protests-in-south-korea/" target="_blank">covered Seoul with posters</a> accusing Gaga of "spreading unhealthy sexual culture" through "lewd lyrics and performances." </P><P> </P><P>The superstar and her fans, however, were undeterred. Of all the actors coming together to form the Avengers, Mark Ruffalo decidedly had the most to prove. After two previous Hulk films left fans largely unsatisfied, a new actor in the role could either lead to another letdown or, finally, to a version that felt true to the comics.
Fortunately for Ruffalo, early reviews of "The Avengers" overwhelming point to his version of Bruce Banner as one of the highlights of the film. MTV News caught up with Ruffalo at the closing-night ceremonies for the Tribeca Film Festival to get his take on the Hulk's positive reception and to find out what was different this time around.
Ruffalo felt the pressure that came with the role of the Hulk as soon as he signed on to be the third actor in as many films. "It was very daunting. I've never had a part so harshly reviewed before I even shot a single frame of film," he said. "The fanboys had a lot to say about it — granted, they had a great deal of care about this part and a lot of sentimentality as well, as do I, growing up on it."
The actor said that the latest technology gave him the biggest advantage over the first two iterations of the character. "There have been other great performances as Banner. The only real edge that I had was that the technology had changed so much since that last movie that I actually got to play the Hulk," Ruffalo said.
This latest version of the Hulk takes a different approach to the character, giving him a dry sense of humor about his condition, but Ruffalo gave credit to both Eric Bana and Edward Norton for helping lay the foundation in the first two films.
"I just think it's a natural progression of the other performances. When you find the guy at this point, he's tired of running. He's got a wry sense of humor about himself," Ruffalo said. "He's ready to turn and face the world. He's got a charming world-weariness that's kind of knocked the edges off of him and made him slightly more accessible."
