Katt Williams Has LOST CUSTODY Of His 8-Year-Old Daughter!

It's no laughing matter at the home of comedian Katt Williams. It's being reported that he recently lost custody of his 8-year-old adopted daughter Leanne. Deets inside...

Legal and family woes continue to mount for Katt Williams.  Unfortunately, TMZ has obtained court documents that show he has lost custody of one of his children.

A family court recently awarded Crystal McGhee custody of their 8-year-old adopted daughter, Leanne. For the record, it's not clear if Katt and Crystal ever married.

But for now, Crystal has sole legal and physical custody of Leanne and Katt has visitation rights on alternate weekends.

Katt has not spoken out about the custody battle and there's been no mention of his other adopted kids (he has seven).

Howie D Doing Crunches Before Britney Spears Lap Dance

Backstreet Boy jokes to MTV News that he'll be ready 'if she does, by chance, pick me to do that' on Femme Fatale Tour.
By Jocelyn Vena

Howie D is set to hit the road with Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale Tour this weekend, but there's one thing he may not be ready for: getting one of her famous onstage lap dances.

"I just heard about it, and it just means that I have to go into major workout mode now," the Backstreet Boy joked to MTV News. "I have to do more pushups and crunches than I ever did, because I want to make sure that I represent myself and my group properly."

If Brit does decide to give him a lap dance, he already sees a potential perk. "If she does, by chance, pick me to do that, which I'm not opposed to, it's a good get-out-of-jail-free card for me," he laughed, pointing to his wedding band. "So I'm down with it. It's all in the name of music."

The string of South American tour dates happens to be timed perfectly to the release of Howie D's first-ever solo album, Back to Me, and he's got some fun stuff in store for lucky fans who come to check him out.

"Well, I'm actually taking a lot from what I've learned from the Backstreet Boys and implementing it into my show," he revealed. "Actually, on the show with me I have a DJ that's behind me and we're kind of working on some stuff together. [There's] even some Backstreet Boys songs. I'm definitely not shying away and presenting what the fans want to hear, but at the same time premiering some of my new songs off the record and it's just gonna be a fun, energy-packed, 'get your mind away for 20 minutes' on my set [show]."

Britney Spears And Howie D Have 'Grown Up' Together

Now, Brit is taking the Backstreet Boy on tour with her in South America.

Britney Spears may be the leading lady on the Femme Fatale Tour, but that doesn't mean she doesn't want to bring some guys along for the ride.

Next up, Backstreet Boy Howie D is slated to hit the road with Spears, following in the footsteps of DJ Pauly D and Joe Jonas. The South American tour dates — which kick off November 20, days after Howie releases his solo album Back to Me — were an enticing offer to the pop singer.

"I embraced it with open arms," he told MTV News of the trek, which ends November 28. "She's such a great, talented person. We've known each other for many, many years."

He isn't lying: Howie and Britney grew up together in the industry, with the Backstreet Boys and Spears two of the figureheads of the late-'90s pop revival. Howie said they're rooted in the same place, which will lend itself nicely to touring together.

"We kind of came out of the same camp, out of the Orlando pop scene with us and 'NSYNC and Britney," he recalled. "I feel like we've all grown together and have very similar, parallel lives with us and our music, [with] certain moments being very, very hot, certain moments not, and just riding the wave up and down as it's going. Even [with our] personal lives, having families, having kids. I have a huge respect for her, not only as an artist, but as a person. It's good to be around people you've known and people you've grown up with."

So what keeps people coming back for more from the likes of Howie and Britney? He has a theory: "It's a test of good music being out there," he said. "We really take pride in making good records, timeless records, and being true to our craft and trying to give our fans what they want ... trying to constantly take each record to the next level, push the envelope."

Do you want Howie to tour with Britney in the States? Let us know in the comments!

Justin Bieber Should 'Stay Strong,' Usher Says

'All of this comes with the territory,' Ush tells MTV News of paternity-suit drama.
By Jocelyn Vena

Usher might not have known how big Justin Bieber would become when he discovered him a few years back, but he was pretty sure he had found something special.

Since Bieber burst on the scene with his My World EP back in 2009, the 17-year-old has grown up with the world watching. He's gone from up-and-comer to full-fledged pop sensation, racking up chart-topping albums and a box-office hit and becoming an all-around mega-heartthrob — all in two years.

Of course, with the good does come negative attention as well. Recently, Bieber was hit with a paternity lawsuit, which has since been dropped.

Usher, no stranger to his own controversies, had these words for the Biebs: "Stay strong. And know that all of this comes with the territory."

Aside from the drama, Usher is especially proud of Bieber's charitable side. His mentor said he "absolutely" knew the kid from Stratford, Ontario, had a big heart from the start.

"To write a check is only half of it, but when you truly take on a responsibility to be a philanthropist, you accept an effort, and I really think that Pencils of Promise is something that has a very bright future," Usher told MTV News at an event for the charity, noting that Bieber is a only a small part of it.

Usher — who appears on Bieber's new Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe — gives credit to the folks surrounding the teen superstar, including manager Scooter Braun. "Just judging from the determination and the will power of the entire team around Justin, I see a very, very promising [future] for him as a philanthropist," Usher said.

Common Trades Hoops For Hip-Hop On 'When I Was 17'

'I couldn't play for a little while, so I started rapping more,' he recalls on the episode, airing Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/PT on MTV.
By Henna Kathiya

While most 17-year-olds were spending their free time playing video games and hanging out, Common was perfecting his skills. There's no doubt that this led to his successful hip-hop career.

The Grammy-winning artist revealed how he began rapping thanks to a sports-related injury on this week's episode of "When I Was 17," airing Saturday at 11 a.m. ET.

"When I was 17, I went to high school at [Chicago's] Luther South, and I did well in high school," the MC said on the episode, which also features T-Pain and "Twilight" star Alex Meraz. "I played basketball, but I got injured."

Common was hit in the eye during one of the games. Of course, that put him out of the game for a little bit, since it's kind of important to be able to see what's going on. So Common decided to use his time a little more productively than most other 17-year-olds.

"When I got injured, I couldn't play for a little while, so I started rapping more," he said. "I would be in gym class, and I would, like, get somebody to start beatboxing, and I'd just start freestyling."

Even at such a young age, Common's freestyling skills were unmatched. "He would be able to freestyle on any topic," his friend Marlon recalled. "We would change topics for him, and he would be able to talk about and rap about it. It was actually amazing."

He went by the moniker Rashid Cool at the time, and people knew he was a force to be reckoned with. "It was right around the time hip-hop was getting strong, so you get respect. A lot of people were like, 'Rashid Cool, you know he's good people,' " Common said.

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring T-Pain, Common and Alex Meraz — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Sleeping At Last's Ryan O'Neal calls submitting 'Turning Page' for the soundtrack a 'shot in the dark,' in 'Twilight' Tuesday.
By Kara Warner

We're back again for another "Twilight" Tuesday, our recently resurrected weekly column dedicated to anything and everything popping in the house that Stephenie Meyer built.

Not that we've been lacking content this month, since "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1" opens this week, but there's always something to spotlight. This week's special subject: the lucky artists on the soundtrack.

When you're associated with any of the "Twilight" films, no matter in what capacity, it's kind of a big deal — particularly if you are an emerging artist on the music scene and one of your songs is selected to be part of the "Breaking Dawn" soundtrack. That dream recently came true for singer/songwriter Ryan O'Neal from Sleeping At Last when he found out his song "Turning Page" made the final cut.

"I wrote 'Turning Page' about six months ago, and it was something I felt I really wanted to be from Edward's perspective," he told MTV News recently, after a special concert performance for the fans camped out before the premiere in "tent city." "I thought, 'That makes sense,' and things just kind of layered on itself. And after the first few piano chords, I felt like that was where I wanted to go with it. So then I sent it in, which was a total shot in the dark. I hadn't heard anything [for a while], so I was pretty sure it was a no-go. And then a couple months ago, I got a call and was told it was in some of the parts of the film."

In exactly what parts of the film does his song appear? When Bella is walking down the aisle and during the highly anticipated sex scene. Can you imagine sending in a song as a "shot in the dark" and then finding out that it is featured in not one, but two scenes? And not only that, but those two scenes happen to be two of the most important in the movie? O'Neal is a lucky duck. A hugely talented and deserving one, that is, and very appreciative.

"I'm still kind of wrapping my head around the whole thing," O'Neal said. "I'm so, so privileged. I can't even believe it."

Kim Porter hit the carpet and event sans Diddy--they allegedly had lunch together just days ago.  Very cute look for her in her jeans and fur vest and jeweled Jimmy Choo sandals.  And she's looking happy these days.

Even though there are no cameras allowed in, we're told by an attendant Heavy, dressed in a suit, "looks very peaceful."

The wake will take place until 6p EST today.  And the private funeral will take place in the same location tomorrow.

Just days ago, Heavy's autopsy results were deemed "inconclusive," but no illegal drugs were found in his system.  It will be several more weeks before a cause of death is determined.

J. Cole's Rap Name Was 'Therapist,' On 'When I Was 17'

'A few years later, I realized Therapist sounded like a wrestler's name,' Roc Nation rapper recalls on Saturday's episode.
By Henna Kathiya

Before he was signed with Roc Nation and topping charts with his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, 17-year-old Jermaine Cole was still trying to find his hip-hop identity. And on this week's episode of "When I Was 17," North Carolina native J. Cole reveals some of his rather interesting pre-fame stage names.

"When I was 17, I had been rapping for what, five years, at that point," Cole reveals on Saturday's show, which airs at 11 a.m. ET on MTV. "There was a local group named Bomb Shelter that had been mentoring me since I was 14 years old."

And it was Bomb Shelter that really got J. Cole thinking about a catchy rap name. "One [group member] was Nervous Reck and the other was Filthy Ritch. I was like man, 'Those are the most creative rap names I ever heard. I need a rap name like that!' " Cole recalls.

So the budding rapper did what any smart guy would do — he hit the books.

"We used to look through the dictionary for rap names," he says, "I could never find nothing. One day these dudes [Bomb Shelter] were like, 'Yo, we got a name for you, it's Therapist,' " he said.

While J. Cole wasn't entirely feeling the name, he decided to test it out with the help of his mentors. His friend, Nervous Reck, thought Cole could make it work by playing up the doctor angle. "I was like maybe it could work, you just gotta play on the whole doctor image and being therapeutic and your music is therapeutic," Nervous Reck explains on the episode.

So Cole rocked with the moniker Therapist for a while, figuring his mentors knew better than he did about these matters.

"A few years later, I realized Therapist sounded like a wrestler's name," Cole laughs. "You know, like an alias. It didn't feel real."

So he ditched Therapist and adopted J. Cole. "J. Cole felt like my real name. That was a real natural fit. It didn't feel like I was trying to be anything."

We think his fans would agree: Therapist World just doesn't have the same ring to it.

"When I Was 17" — this week featuring J. Cole, Robyn and Chad Michael Murray — airs on Saturday at 11a.m ET/PT on MTV.

Rebecca Black Is Back With 'Person Of Interest'

New video follows in footsteps of 'Friday,' only with fewer mentions of car seats (and days of the week).
By James Montgomery

Rebecca Black in her video for "Person Of Interest"
Photo: Rebecca Black

Rebecca Black's "Friday" was a bizarrely literal documentation of all manner of teen-dream ephemera (who among us can forget her internal debate over which seat she should take in her friend's car?) that, not surprisingly, became the stuff of Internet legend.

And, in the process, it also helped launch her career — which, to this point, seems to have crested with her cameo in Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" clip. Sure, she tried to get semi-serious with her "Friday" follow-up, "My Moment," which was certainly a more polished product, but came packaged with a video that featured nary a mention of car seats (or days of the week), and as such, didn't really do what it intended: prove that Black was more than just a viral sensation and push her to the next level (though, to be fair, it has racked up some 27 million views on YouTube, certainly not a number to be sneezed at).

So now, she's back with phase three of her world domination plan, a new single and rather amazingly called "Person of Interest" (no word on whether J.J. Abrams is getting points on the back end), which seems to be her attempt at melding the temporal inanity of "Friday" with the, uh, budget of "My Moment." Or, you know, something like that.

Because this time around, she's dropping lines like "There's a crime scene on the dance floor" and "Can't deny you're implicated in the mayhem in my mind" over a lilting, post-disco beat that features the same ratcheting electro tendrils, open-faced guitar licks and ebbing, undulating synth squiggles that you've heard on every Radio Disney song from 2008 to present. They're practically prerequisites. Her voice is still lacquered with studio sheen, particularly on the chorus and the "emotive" breakdown toward the back end, when all the instrumentation falls away and we're left with nothing more than Black's squelched-yet-slippery vocals. It is all seemingly created in a laboratory and, rather ingeniously, her attempt at splitting the difference between the breakout hit and the lesser follow up.

The video is complete with skee-ball and mini-golf and go-karts and all manner of "Mom-drop-us-off-here" madness. There's a cute boy, and a police sketch artist (since, you know, the song is called "Person of Interest") and a really fun party where Black gets to go onstage and perform — in front of all her best friends (and the cute boy too) — because, lest you forget, she's the star. It is certainly a better video than "Friday," and yet, it is not as compelling as that clip, mostly because it is a better video. And that, really, seems to be the case both for and against Rebecca Black — the machinations and aspirations were readily apparent from the very beginning (both hers and those of the Ark Music Factory that spawned her); we just don't tend to respond to them when they are so apparent, you know?

And yes, I realize this is all fairly highbrow discussion of a rather lowbrow song, but it's oddly fascinating, too, especially since it has become apparent that Black cares so much about being famous. Will "Person of Interest" succeed where "My Moment" failed? Can it establish her as an actual pop star, or will it once again fail to match the zeitgeist-uniting WTF-ness of "Friday"? Is this just the next step in her voyage, or is it the end? The jury's still out on all counts, though you've got to give her (or her handlers) credit for continuing to try. Or maybe you don't. For an artist as straightforward as Rebecca Black is, she's certainly confounding, isn't she?

What do you think of Rebecca Black's latest? Let us know in the comments!

'Dark Shadows': Ruminations On Vampire Movie Plot

How true to the 1960s original TV series will Tim Burton's adaptation be?
By John Mitchell

Johnny Depp
Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/ Getty Images

If you like your vampires dark, monstrous and allergic to sunlight — as opposed to sparkling and smoldering with teenage angst — this story's for you. We'll be diving deep into the world of "Dark Shadows," director Tim Burton's big-screen adaptation of the classic late-'60s/ early-'70s otherworldly soap opera, which will feature Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloë Moretz and Helena Bonham Carter.

Unlike some of 2012's other tentpole releases, like "The Hunger Games," "The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Avengers," "Dark Shadows" isn't as present in the collective national consciousness because its source material is more than 40 years old. Many people may not even know that it is based on a sprawling, 1,225-episode melodrama about 200-year-old vampire Barnabas Collins (Depp), who is reawakened in the late 1960s and tries to forge a relationship with his descendants and a familiar-seeming governess without revealing his dark secret.

Yes, Tim Burton is making a good old-fashioned vampire movie. Early set pictures indicate he is keeping with the Gothic aesthetic that set the TV show — and its short-lived 1991 reincarnation — apart from just about anything else on the tube.

"It goes back to Tim's roots," Moretz told MTV News at this year's Spike Scream Awards. "It goes back to the true Tim, and I love it because he gets in it. He's in that little circle with Michelle and Helena and Johnny, and it just, it happens. Everything goes down in the movie."

Not much is known about the plot of the top-secret production. However, we recently gleaned a little bit of info from three-time-Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood that should give fans of the show at least some insight into what Burton and Co. are cooking up for the May 11, 2012, release.

"There're some period scenes in the movie as well, so it goes back and forth, without totally giving away everything," Atwood said.

The soap's story line was so sprawling that it was hard to even venture a guess which elements of the original's plot would make it into Burton's film. What follows is speculation, yes, but Atwood's assurance that we will be traveling back and forth in time points to a specific story from the original that was also central to the '90s re-vamp (pun intended).

During a séance at Collinwood mansion, Victoria Winters (played here by newcomer Bella Heathcote) is transported back to 1795, to the time immediately before Barnabas was turned into a vampire by his former lover Angelique (Eva Green), a witch with a mean jealous streak.

In 1795, Winters is accused of being the source of Angelique's witchcraft and is sentenced to hang. However, before she can make it to the gallows, she returns to the present — in the case of the series, 1968 — with full knowledge of Barnabas' tortured secret.

There's so much plot centered in this one story thread from the series — the backstory of Barnabas' fiancée Josette, who flings herself off a cliff to avoid becoming a vampire, among them — that we're not sure how Burton is going to cram it all into a two-hour movie. But we sure can't wait to see him try.

There are many other incidents of time travel in the series — Barnabas at one point travels to 1897 to try to rectify a haunting situation in the present — but the fact that Heathcote is credited on the film's IMDb page as both Victoria Winters and Josette duPres only further supports our idea that Burton is filming the story of Barnabas' discovery in the present by Willie Loomis (Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley) and his transformation into a vampire in the past.

Also, Helena Bonham Carter's presence as Dr. Julia Hoffman hints that we also may get a taste of a separate story in which Hoffman tries to cure Barnabas' vampirism so he can be with Victoria Winters, who he believes to be Josette's reincarnation.

It all kind of fits together a little too perfectly, wouldn't you agree? Does it all work out? We're not telling ... yet!

Do you have any favorite stories from the original series you're hoping Burton, Depp, Pfeiffer and Co. bring to life on the big screen? Sound off in the comments below and tweet me at @JohnMitchell83 with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns!

We know you are as excited as we are to watch Jonah Hill introduce an exclusive clip from his new R-rated comedy "The Sitter," followed by a lengthy live sit-down interview with the man himself, but unfortunately due to some technical difficulties, the stream is delayed. Don't worry, we're doing everything possible to get back to the big event, in which Hill will talk all about his highly-anticipated film with MTV News' Josh Horowitz.

Before we get to the premiere of the clip and our chat with the funnman, here are a few primers to check out. First, take a walk down memory lane with one of our first encounters with Hill on the set of his first movie, "Accepted," which had Hill working alongside his real-life buddy Justin Long.

"You need one guy who weighs a little bit more than the other guy," Justin Long joked at the time of what made them a dynamic comedic duo. "I think that's the common thread."

"I wouldn't say we're the next Farley and Spade," cautioned Jonah Hill, Long's roommate at the time. "I would say we're the next Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna."

Hill of course went on to star in a slew of hit comedies like "Knocked Up," "Superbad" and "Funny People," our interviews about which you can revisit here.
