Johnny Depp As Barnabas Collins In Dark Shadows

Well look who’s at it again! Johnny Depp and Tim Burton have teamed up for Dark Shadows, which looks like an awesome vampire movie! Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are coming together once more to work on a new gothic vampire flick, Dark Shadows, which will hit theaters on May 11 2012 . The movie, which is based off of an ABC soap that aired from 1966 to 1971, is going to be a big bag of paranormal, with the show featuring witches, werewolves, zombies, vampires and a whole bunch of other things that you wouldn’t want as your roommate. Depp is going to be taking on the role of Barnubus Collins, the one that made the show the cult classic that it is. It is also the character who Johnny Depp has said to have been obsessed with as a child. Creepy. In contrast to our most beloved vampires at the moment (Yes, I’m talking to you Twi-hards), Depp?s character has dark circles around his eyes, hands with claw-like finger nailsclaws, and overall features that make you compare him to a bat. Looks aside, I’m sure the immortal love child of Burton and Depp with give the Cullen?s a [...]

Justin Bieber's Snake To Lady Gaga's Egg: 2011 Red-Carpet Highlights

Beyonce's baby bump was one of the year's most-memorable moments.

<P>Anything can happen on the red carpet at any given awards show, and in 2011, it felt like anything that could happen <i>did</i>. As MTV News reflects on some of the biggest moments of the year, we decided to remember some of the most-memorable things A-listers did live right in front of us all. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="id:1676574" width="240" height="211"></div><p> <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/news/621416/snooki-and-sway-wave-to-lady-gaga-through-her-egg.jhtml#id=1676574"><b>Lady Gaga's Egg</b></a><br> In February, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Gaga</a> had everyone guessing how she would arrive to the Grammys. Designed by Hussein Chalayan, Gaga later emerged from the structure to proclaim that she was "Born This Way." <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/12/29/what-was-the-biggest-red-carpet-moment-of-2011-poll"><big><b>What was your favorite red-carpet moment of 2011? Obama's Singing Gets Raves From 'American Idol' Coach

'AI' associate music director Michael Orland tells MTV News in an exclusive that prez's pipes would get him to Hollywood Week.
By Jim Cantiello

This week, "American Idol" kicked off its 11th season, and it appears even President Obama is getting into the spirit. On Thursday night at a fundraiser at the Apollo Theater, the commander in chief surprised a star-studded Harlem, New York, crowd by busting out a few measures of "AI" staple Al Green's "Let's Stay Together."

Obama's smooth singing voice impressed many — including the Rev. Al Green himself, who told TMZ that Obama "nailed it" — but does the leader of the free world have what it takes to make it on America's #1 singing competition?

"American Idol" associate music director and vocal coach Michael Orland certainly thinks so!

"I swear to you, if he auditioned for me in the big stadium [rounds], I would have put him through to the producers immediately," Orland exclusively told MTV News. "I think he was really charming and had a great voice, and that's all you can really tell in the a cappella rounds anyway. ... I thought his phrasing was great, how he broke it up and really worked the room while he was doing it."

But even more noteworthy was Obama's perfect pitch. "He was in the exact same key [as Al Green's recording]. To pull that out of the air, with everything perfectly in tune, I was really impressed," Orland added.

The vocal pro even believes Obama's voice was strong enough to win over ultimate deciders Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. "I guarantee you he would have gotten a Golden Ticket."

On his hypothetical "Idol" journey, Obama's next challenge would be the dreaded Hollywood Week, where hundreds of hopefuls are forced to work around the clock, learning group numbers with little sleep and lots of drama. "I think considering the amount of stress he's normally under, he'd do really well," Orland laughed.

The "Idol" insider struggled to compare Obama's singing voice to any previous contestants but, ultimately, that's what makes the President a fantastic prospect.

"It sounded like him! He sang like he speaks. He has a unique voice, which is all you ever try to find in somebody. ... He didn't try to copy anybody," Orland raved.

Still, every singer could use a little constructive criticism — even singers who have the power to start nuclear war — and if Orland were working with Obama on a full-fledged "Idol" performance, he would encourage the President to take a few risks. "When you do one of those really well-known songs, don't be afraid to change it up a little bit," Orland said, jokingly adding, "If they could send Air Force One, I would give him a free coaching!"

Alas, Obama is too old to audition for "Idol" by 22 years, but fear not, Mr. President: there's always season two of "The X Factor."

Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' "American Idol" page, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

Britney Spears, Jason Trawick: A Timeline Of Their Love

The couple started dating in 2009 while Trawick was still Britney's agent.

<P>Months ago, rumors began circulating that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> and longtime boyfriend Jason Trawick were going to tie the knot. And on Friday (December 16), sources close to the pair and a mysterious tweet from the star herself confirmed that the <a href="/news/articles/1676120/britney-spears-is-engaged.jhtml">couple is engaged</a>. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:720382" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Trawick had already been working with the star as her agent at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment when they began dating in 2009. They went public with their romance when they showed up hand-in-hand to the 2010 Grammy Awards. That May, the two decided to separate their business and personal relationships, and it was confirmed that Trawick would <a href="/news/articles/1638945/britney-spears-confirms-professional-split-from-agent-boyfriend.jhtml">no longer be representing Spears</a>. The pair have always been pretty low-key. In an interview with Ryan Seacrest this March, the pop star opened up about their life together. "We're really normal," she said. "We just like to watch movies; we work out a lot; we take walks." In May, Spears told <a href="http://www.harpersbazaar.com/magazine/cover/britney-spears-talks-gossip-and-family" target="_blank"><i>Harper's Bazaar,</i></a> "I've thought about both [marriage and kids]," saying that tying the knot with Trawick could happen "if the timing was right." And in an interview with <i>Us Weekly</i> in April, <a href="/news/articles/1661441/britney-spears-us-magazine.jhtml">Spears gushed about life</a> with Trawick. "We have such a great time together! He makes me laugh, and we are so comfortable being ourselves," she said. "Maybe [I'll marry again]. Never say never!" </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:703334" width="240" height="211"></div><p> In August, Spears and Trawick walked the red carpet at the 2011 MTV VMAs, and Britney later thanked Trawick when she took the stage to accept her Moonman for <a href="/news/articles/1669846/britney-spears-vmas-best-pop-video.jhtml">Best Pop Video</a> for "Till the World Ends." While the two have remained relatively private, they gave fans a peek at their personal life when they played the lead roles in <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/britney-spears/703015/criminal.jhtml">Britney's "Criminal" video</a>. The video focuses on a fictional love affair between their characters, who go on a crime spree that leads to a steamy encounter. Director Chris Marrs Piliero said Trawick "killed it." This will be Britney's third marriage. She was married to Jason Alexander for 55 hours in 2004. Later that year, she married back-up dancer Kevin Federline; the two divorced in 2006. Federline and Spears have two sons, Jayden James and Sean Preston. A rep for the singer has yet to confirm the news of this latest engagement to MTV News. <i>Send your well-wishes to Britney and Jason in the comments.</i></p>

Jay-Z Makes Post-Baby Appearance At 40/40 Reopening

NEW YORKJay-Z has a lot to celebrate. A little over a week ago, he and wife Beyoncé welcomed daughter Blue Ivy Carter into the world, and on Wednesday night, big poppa Hov had a bit of business to attend to at the reopening of his 40/40 Club.

The stars came out and walked the red carpet before entering the redesigned sports bar. Jay's buddies Warren Buffet, Spike Lee, Steve Stoute, Kevin Liles and New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia all attended.

"Hov always has big parties, so I'm definitely looking forward to going inside and mingling and jingling," Ashanti said.

"We here at the reopening of the 40/40; we about to have a couple of drinks, a lot of beautiful women, New York City, the new joint — you already know," Wale said excitedly.

Jigga's 40/40 closed last summer to undergo renovations and is now back with an updated look. While everyone was excited about the new club, baby Blue Ivy was a hot topic on the carpet. Ashanti couldn't be happier for the new parents, but when asked if she had caught a bit of baby fever herself, the "Foolish" singer made it clear that she isn't ready to be a mother just yet. "Oh no, boo-boo, no baby over here. I say it enough in my records," she said with a boisterous laugh.

Music mogul and record producer Irv Gotti, who has three kids of his own, told MTV News that he shared some fatherly advice with his friend Jay-Z, but he wouldn't reveal any of it. "I'll keep that between me and Hov," Irv said.

Then at that very moment, Jay breezed past the carpet trying to dodge reporters and flashing lights, but he did stop to give his old friend some love. After he and Gotti slapped each other five, Jay made a beeline for the 40/40 doors to get the party started.

Mark Wahlberg Apologizes For 9/11 Remarks

'I deeply apologize to the families of the victims,' Wahlberg said after controversial comments published in Men's Journal.
By Gil Kaufman

After a controversial interview in the February issue of Men's Journal magazine went viral this week, "Contraband" star Mark Wahlberg issued an apology on Wednesday for suggesting that he might have changed the course of history on the day of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.

In the interview, Wahlberg — who was scheduled to be on the flight from Boston to Los Angeles that morning which ended up crashing into one of the World Trade Center towers — said that if he had been there things might have turned out differently.

"If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn't have went down like it did," said Wahlberg, 40, who ended up taking a private charter plane earlier in the week and avoiding the flight that was overtaken by terrorists. "There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, 'OK, we're going to land somewhere safely, don't worry.' "

Excerpts from the interview made their way online on Wednesday and TMZ reported that Deena Burnett-Bailey, the widow of a 9/11 victim who was killed on United Airlines flight 93 when it crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after terrorists tried to divert it to Washington, D.C., called the comments "disrespectful." A short time later, Wahlberg issued his apology.

"To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with, and to suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible," said Wahlberg in a statement. "I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention."

'Bridesmaids' Director 'Pulling For' Melissa McCarthy Oscar

'I think we got a good shot with Melissa [for Best Supporting Actress],' Paul Feig tells us on the Golden Globes red carpet.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Joshua Horowitz

Paul Feig

"Bridesmaids" might have walked away from the Golden Globes empty-handed, but the raunchy comedy is still considered a dark horse for the upcoming Oscar race. Nominees won't be announced until January 24, and many experts are guessing that the film might sneak into the pool of Best Picture nominees.

Director Paul Feig is similarly optimistic. MTV News caught up with him on the red carpet before the Globes where he chatted about his predictions for "Bridesmaids'" Oscar chances.

"I'm really pulling for Melissa [McCarthy]. I think we got a good shot with Melissa [for Best Supporting Actress]," he said. "I think the girls have a good shot for the screenplay."

But what about their Best Picture odds? Feig isn't holding his breath.

"Look, nothing would make me happier," he said. "I think that's a real tough one because the way the voting for the Academy is set up for Best Pictures this year is tough. We have to get a lot of, like, 'best movie of the year' votes, which, like, we're good, but we're not the best movie of the year. I'd like to say we were, but what an ass I would sound like if I did say that."

That lends itself to a different argument that says the Academy Awards should follow the Globes' model and separate the drama and comedy categories. As a comedic director and producer for over a decade, Feig said he sees the upside in that split.

His argument is that it's easier to create a showy drama that appeals to critics than a showy comedy that does the same. In his experience, showy comedies typically distance the intended audience, though that isn't always the case.

"I thought 'The Hangover' was very showy in that way, filmmaking-wise. But it's hard because most comedy needs to be very relatable. Like, if I were to do 'Bridesmaids' kind of very stylistic, I think I would alienate the audience, you know," he said. "As a filmmaker, my theory is always, 'Take the backseat. Don't show off. Let the girls be the focus.' "

Check out everything we've got on "Bridesmaids."

Emily Maynard Named New Bachelorette

Looking for love on television yet again, Emily Maynard has been announced as the brand new ?Bachelorette? star.

The single mother from North Carolina will begin filming the new season in March after a long period of negotiations with ABC.

And this time around, Maynard?s standards are set high. A pal told press, ?She?s looking for a man-- not a little boy.?

As for why she split from ?Bachelor? stud Brad Womack last year, Emily told press, "I wanted to be married and have more children, but I doubted he was going to still want to be with me. As a single mom, I don't have the luxury of saying, ?We'll figure it out when we get there.? I need that reassurance that he'd want to be with me six weeks down the road much less six years."

Beyonce, Britney Spears And More: 25 Best Songs Of 2011

We count down the year's most memorable musical moments, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery

Britney Spears on the cover of "Till the World Ends"
Photo: Jive

<P>In 2011, we shuffled and shook it out. We found love and decided to dance until the world ends. We rolled in the deep and celebrated the boys with the booming systems. Shoot, at one point, we even went to <a href="/news/articles/1673975/will-ferrell-jay-z-kanye-west-watch-the-throne.jhtml">Paris with Will Ferrell</a>. It was, to say the very least, an <i>interesting</i> 12 months. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="id:1675898" width="240" height="211"></div><p> So, how else to sum up the year than with my picks for the 25 <a href="http://www.mtv.com/specials/best_of">Best Songs of 2011</a>: odes to partying and pumped-up kicks, songs of sadness and beauty, tunes about getting loaded and getting revenge. Pop, hip-hop, rock, bed-tronica, they're all here, and they're all important in some way, mostly because they all helped guide us through a rather tumultuous time. But that's enough from me, let's get to the songs. Oh, and I'd like to hear your picks too &#8212; drop me a line in the comments below. So now, on with the countdown. <b>25. Nicola Roberts, "Beat of My Drum"</b>: Supremely saccharine single from erstwhile Girls Aloud member mashes together every notable pop moment in recent history, yet somehow manages to be better that the sum of its parts. That's thanks mostly to the supercharged, sing-a-long chorus, where the whole thing comes together in a head-spinning rush. She should go solo more often. <b>24. Against Me!, "Russian Spies"</b>: Searing, surging punk from Gainesville lifers proves their time on Sire Records didn't soften them one bit. It only made them more resolute. And, strangely, sadder too. <b>23. Kreayshawn, "Gucci Gucci"</b>: Either the smartest song of 2011 or the dumbest, the beauty of "Gucci Gucci" &#8212; and Kreayshawn, for that matter &#8212; is that the answer is probably both. The goofy, horror-movie synth squiggle, the dollops of low-end whomp, the part where Kreay claims to have swag coming out her ovaries ... it's all good. Even if it's not. <b>22. Gospel Music, "This Town Doesn't Have Enough Bars for Both Of Us"</b>: Peppy, poppy, pocket-rock that laments the lack of quality drinking establishments in Owen Holmes' hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, and dares to ponder one of life's great post-breakup quandaries: When does <i>our</i> place become just <i>my</i> place? He's not smart enough to know the answer; instead, he spends his genius on barroom <i>bon mots</i> like, "I'm not drinking anymore/ But I'm not drinking any less." Works for me. <b>21. Demi Lovato, "Skyscraper"</b>: For about a week, this was the biggest song in the world (or the Internet), a fact that had nothing to do with irony, our nascent sense of superiority or kittens, and everything to do with the startling connection Lovato makes with the track itself. Oh, and the fact that she sings the absolute <i>beejezus</i> out of it. Given everything that's <a href="/news/articles/1651297/demi-lovato-enters-treatment-center-leaves-tour.jhtml">happened in Lovato's life</a>, that connection makes sense, but it's the maturity she shows on the song &#8212; and that final, chill-inducing chorus &#8212; that opened eyes, and served notice. Welcome to the club, Demi. <b>20. Lykke Li, "Get Some"</b>: Overlooked, otherworldly single off Li's equally overlooked (and otherworldly) <i>Wounded Rhymes</i> album, this one is very much about sex. Thumping, bumping, panting ... and then Li pushes it all over the top with her smoldering, sumptuous vocals. The kind of song that requires a cigarette and a cold shower after repeat listens. <b>19. The Black Keys, "Lonely Boy"</b>: After spending portions of their breakout <i>Brothers</i> album getting slightly contemplative, the Keys roar back with "Lonely Boy," a song that only contemplates how best to make a guitar rev like a V-8 engine. A hard-charging, and even harder-chugging treat (with an equally <a href="/news/articles/1673294/black-keys-lonely-boy-derrick-tuggle.jhtml">hard-partying music video</a>), it's the kind of classic claptrap you always knew they were capable of making. <b>18. Chris Brown, "Beautiful People"</b>: Folks can talk about <a href="/news/articles/1675822/best-mtv-live-performances-2011.jhtml">Brown's hip-hop turn on "Look at Me Now,"</a> but this single represents his biggest reinvention to date. A slippery, shiny club track helmed by Benny Benassi, like most of Breezy's work it is undeniably sexy, but it's also subtly smart too. And that's where he made his biggest strides. Also, unlike "Look at Me Now," he doesn't even mention Mr. Miyagi once. <b>17. YACHT, "Dystopia (The Earth Is on Fire)"</b>: Every day the sky gets lower (lowerlowerlower!) And every day the flames get higher (higherhigherhigher!) So, with apologies to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Roof_Is_on_Fire target="_blank">Rock Master Scott and the Dynamic Three</a>, this disco duo just decide to let the motherf---er burn. <b>16. Washed Out, "Eyes be Closed"</b>: Massively ebbing and echoing bed-tronica (or, you know, "chillwave") from some dude in Perry, Georgia. Bonus: Sounds nothing like Perry, Georgia. <b>15. Lil Wayne, "6 Foot 7 Foot"</b>: <a href="/news/articles/1662974/lil-wayne-6-foot-7-foot-bangladesh.jhtml">Weezy and producer Bangladesh may still</a> hate each other (or maybe they've made up, I can't remember), but there's no denying that both men are better off together. "6 Foot" starts with Harry Belafonte's "The Banana Boat Song," then twists it into something else entirely. Knotty and slightly seizure-inducing, it's like "A Milli" times, well, a million. <b>14. Nicki Minaj, "Super Bass"</b>: The unlikely champion of the Summer Jam Sweepstakes, it started life almost as an afterthought (a bonus track on the <i>Pink Friday</i> deluxe edition) and ended up being Nicki's breakthrough hit. Sometimes things just work out that way. Here's to the guys with the booming systems. <b>13. <a href="/news/articles/1675846/lmfaos-party-rock-anthem-a-big-thing-in-2011.jhtml">LMFAO, "Party Rock Anthem"</a></b>: It's either the stoopidest song in recent memory, or perhaps LMFAO's magnum opus (or maybe both), but why ponder points like that when the end result is this good. From its ebola-catchy hook to party-hearty machinations, this one is just begging to be blasted ... and shuffled to. <b>12. Foster The People, "Pumped Up Kicks"</b>: The year's catchiest rock tune was actually <i>last year</i>'s catchiest too &#8212; it just took folks a while to realize it. Hazy, loping and scratchy like a mohair sweater, it recalls a headier era when bands wrote ultra-hooky singles about ultra-dark things (Eels' "Novocaine for the Soul," the Smashing Pumpkins' "Today," etc.) and earned repeated spins on radio as a result. Also known as the 1990s. <b>11. Rihanna, "We Found Love"</b>: A few weeks ago, someone told me that <i>this</i> would ultimately end up being Rihanna's signature hit and, at the time, I sort of laughed him off. I mean, did he remember "Umbrella"? But, the more I think about it, he may be right. Or at least on the right track. From the icy synth strains to <a href="/news/articles/1675353/rihanna-talk-that-talk.jhtml">Calvin Harris' hard-charging</a> pre-chorus, it most certainly is the song that <i>best</i> represents pop, circa 2011, and given RiRi's standing in the field, perhaps in time, it will become her set-closing number too. For now, at least, I'm content to bask in "Love's" masterful mix of the carnal and, well, the club. <b>10. Britney Spears, "Till the World Ends"</b>: I have been accused (many times) of being a Brit basher and, sure, that's probably true, but not even <i>I</i> could deny this song. Super-charged star-burst synthesizers, robo-vocals and, of course, that iconic "Woah-Oh-Oh" chantalong, it's <i>the</i> party jam for the post-apocalyptic future. And because of all that, it's also an important song; not only a reminder that Britney is still capable of making truly terrific pop music, but that, really, she never stopped. And coming from one of her most ardent critics, that's high praise indeed. <b>09. Beyonc&#233;, "Love on Top"</b>: You wanted a throwback jam, you've got a throwback jam. Big, bold, brassy and blissed-out, it represents everything B was going for on her <i>4</i> album, recalling roiling old R&B classics and the supreme diva-tude of the all-time greats. Sure, I could've gone for something like "Run the World (Girls)" or even "Countdown," but "Love on Top" is where it all <i>clicks,</i> sublimely so. Joy for days, which, given our dire times, made this one an absolute lifesaver. Oh, and as is the case with all of her best tunes, Beyonc&#233; <i>belts</i> here. And really, what else do you need? <b>08. Nickelback, "Bottoms Up"</b>: Take away my cred card, but I am unapologetically in awe of this song. I wrote an entire column about its boozy brilliance earlier this year, but suffice to say, it is without a doubt the <a href="/news/articles/1673594/nickelback-bottoms-up-here-and-now.jhtml">greatest thing Nickelback</a> will ever do, in that they are first and foremost a party band, and this is their ultimate party jam: a song about getting supremely sh--faced, about drinking everything from Jim Beam to "straight gasoline," complete with a crushing, ALL-CAPS chorus and appropriately chugging riffs. Oh, and at one point, Chad Kroeger rhymes "bar" with "fire," mostly because he can. Hammer down, now and forever. <b>07. Bright Eyes, "The Ladder Song"</b>: For as much noise as Conor Oberst is capable of making, it's often the quieter moments where his rickety, ramshackle genius shines brightest. And "Ladder Song" &#8212; a heartbreakingly raw tribute to a friend who committed suicide &#8212; is not only his quietest, it's one of his best. Backed by little more than a piano and a handful of otherworldly room tones, Oberst plumbs the depths of despair, his voice reedy and wavering, and, when he reaches bottom, discovers there are small beauties that make life worth living. It's too bad, he ultimately laments, that his friend didn't discover them too. The year's most achingly beautiful song, by a hair-raising mile. <b>06. Drake, "Take Care"</b>: There are no short</p>

Jay-Z Cleans Up Song Lyrics For Blue Ivy

Jay-Z's daughter Blue Ivy is only a week old and she's already making a big influence on the rapper's life. The Empire State Of Mind hitmaker has released a poem stating that he's no longer using the word "bitch" in his songs.

He writes: "Before I got in the game, made a change, and got rich / I didn't think hard about using the word bitch. I rapped, I flipped it, I sold it, I lived it / now with my daughter in this world I curse those that give it."

What The Golden Globes Tell Us About The Oscars

Some unexpected wins at the Golden Globes change the race leading up to next month's Academy Awards.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Most people will tell you that they only care about the Golden Globes because of what the list of winners says about the Oscars. While the Globes aren't historically the best predictors of Academy Award winners, they do often give a signal of where things are, heading into Oscar night.

This year was no different, but don't expect people to be erasing their picks from their Oscar ballot just yet.

Here is what this year's Golden Globe winners tell us about the Oscars.

Sorry, Brad
This year's awards season has been marked by a lack of front-runners in most categories. Even with the dozens of critic organizations that have already awarded their year-end prizes, going into Globes night, no one performance or film stood out as the one to beat. (The closest one to a sure bet is Christopher Plumber for "The Beginners.") Until Sunday, three men could have realistically been considered favorites for Best Actor: Brad Pitt, Jean Dujardin and George Clooney. Since "The Artist" skated by on a questionable comedy categorization, both Dujardin and Clooney took home Golden Globe statues and landed themselves at the front of the Oscar pack. This is essentially the end of Pitt's Oscar run this year.

Best Actress Award Is Up for Grabs
Most analysts had considered Viola Davis the clear favorite to win Best Actress, but her loss Sunday night to the reigning queen of award shows Meryl Streep signals a change in the tide. The two actresses were neck and neck for the category, but lukewarm to negative reviews for "The Iron Lady" began to hurt Streep's chances just weeks before award season got into full swing. Since "The Help" was generally considered a better film, Davis got the vote of confidence from many over the often-nominated Streep. Though she had been considered one of the favorites going into the Golden Globes, Streep's victory is somewhat of an upset and proof positive that the Best Actress race is far from decided.

"The Descendants" vs. "The Artist"
These are the two films that have fought again and again for Best Picture awards for the past weeks, but the Globes did not offer any great insight for the Oscars. "The Descendants" and "The Artist" both took home the Best Picture award for their respective categories, despite the latter actually being a drama. The only thing we know for sure now is that these are the two films vying for Best Picture, with the "The Artist" maintaining a definite lead. Many considered "Hugo" a contender, and Martin Scorsese's win for Best Director gives some validity to those claims, but for all intents and purposes, any film that isn't "The Artist," "The Descendants" or "Hugo" should throw in the towel now.

Britney Spears' Engagement Begins 'A New Chapter'

It's a 'good step' toward happiness in her life, Jordan Miller of Britney fan site Breatheheavy.com says.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> is <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/britneyspears" target="_blank">"still glowing"</a> after longtime boyfriend <a href="/news/articles/1676120/britney-spears-is-engaged.jhtml">Jason Trawick popped the question</a> to the pop star on Friday. The two spent the weekend in Las Vegas, where Spears flashed her Neil Lane engagement ring as they celebrated their upcoming nuptials and Trawick's 40th birthday. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:720837" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Friends and family have been showing their support and <a href="/news/articles/1676171/britney-spears-engagement-fan-reaction.jhtml">well-wishes</a> for the couple's upcoming wedding, including Spears' <a href="/news/articles/1676192/britney-spears-engaged-k-fed-comments.jhtml">ex-husband Kevin Federline</a>, who told <a href="http://tvweek.ninemsn.com.au/blog.aspx?blogentryid=963715&showcomments=true" target="_blank"><i>TV Week</i></a> magazine that he was "really happy for her." Yet it seems that no one is as happy for Spears than her die-hard fans. MTV News spoke with Las Vegas-based webmaster Jordan Miller, who runs Spears' biggest fan site, <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/" target="_blank">BreatheHeavy.com</a>, and he told us just how thrilled he is about the news. "I was pretty excited for Britney when I found out she was engaged," Miller said. "I think it's a good step for her to have some sort of relationship where she can share her feelings and thoughts about her life, so I'm happy for her." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:720382" width="240" height="211"></div><p> And it seems all of his followers agree. "The overwhelming reaction from fans about the news of Britney's engagement is that they're really happy for her," Miller said. "They think it's such good timing for her, to finish the tour and kind of have a break and be able to start a new chapter in her life. So I think the majority of fans are really happy for Britney and that it's definitely a good step for her." The news doesn't come as a big shock to Miller, since rumors of Britney's engagement have been swirling for months. "There were rumors for the last six months pretty much saying he was going to do it in December," Miller said of the couple, who have been <a href="/news/articles/1676167/britney-spears-jason-trawick-engaged-timeline.jhtml">dating since 2009</a>. "So it's cool to see that it actually happened and she's going to get married." Details have not been released as to when Britney will tie the knot, but it seems Miller already has the perfect wedding gift in mind from all of her fans. "If fans could get Britney a cool present, it would be a vacation to a tropical island where she didn't have to be around anyone but Jason," Miller said. <i>What do you think of Britney's engagement? Let us know in the comments. </i></p>

Beyonce And Jay-Z's New Baby Girl: What Will She Wear?

Style advice for Blue Ivy Carter from New York's top baby shops.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyonc&#233;</a> and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jay_z/artist.jhtml">Jay-Z</a>'s new <a href="/news/articles/1676906/beyonce-jay-z-baby-born-ivy-blue.jhtml">baby girl</a>, <a href="/news/articles/1676940/beyonce-jay-z-blue-ivy-carter.jhtml">Blue Ivy Carter</a>, made her big debut Saturday at New York's Lenox Hill Hospital. With both of Blue's parents in the fashion business &#8212; Beyonc&#233; is the co-owner of the House of Der&#233;on, and Jay-Z is the co-founder of Rocawear &#8212; we are pretty certain that Miss Carter is going to have impeccable style. So, what are the latest trends for super-stylish baby fashionistas? MTV News hit up some of the top baby shops in New York City to find out what Beyonc&#233; and Jay-Z's newest addition might be wearing. "Baby girls at this time of the year, it's definitely cashmere, cashmere, cashmere," said Carolina Zapf, president of Baby CZ in Manhattan. "Pink is still the big color, but there is a lot of trends towards neutrals, cream and also, for a little more-forward child, gray." <CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:724136/cp~name%3Dnews%26id%3D1676907%26vid%3D724136%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A724136" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER> Since Blue Ivy's name hints that her parents might have a favorite color, it's safe to assume that Bey and Jay will dress their little girl in her namesake hue. "I'm a big fan of blue on little babies. I think it's wonderful," Zapf said. "There are just a few mothers who will do it. You can do a blue-striped sweater, but then put a cream flower hat with it to make sure that nobody thinks the baby is a boy." For the days baby Blue wants to let out her own music style, her parents could hit up New York's downtown Babesta, which sells everything from Wu-Tang Clan-inspired onesies to baby concert tees. The shop's CEO, Jennifer Cattaui, said moms are buying "a lot of the rock and roll stuff." "It's kind of what we're known for. It's either the real rock or the fringe. The bestselling items are the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/run_dmc/artist.jhtml">Run-D.M.C.</a> bib and the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/wu_tang_clan/artist.jhtml">Wu-Tang</a> onesie." <i>Do you think Blue Ivy Carter will be a trendsetter? Sound off in the comments!</i> <CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:723691/cp~name%3Dnews%26id%3D1676907%26vid%3D723691%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A723691" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER></p>

Britney Spears, Jason Trawick: A Timeline Of Their Love

The couple started dating in 2009 while Trawick was still Britney's agent.
By Jocelyn Vena

Jason Trawick and Britney Spears

Gabby Union, T.J. Holmes & Wife, & More Pre-Party At BET Honors Dinner

Ahead of tonight's BET Honors Awards taping, Gabrielle Union, T.J. Holmes and his wife, Aretha Franklin, and more all turned up for a pre-awards dinner last night in D.C.

Pics inside...

Gabby Union--who will be hosting tonight's awards--looked amazing in a blue one-shoulder cocktail dress at the dinner at the Corcoran Art Gallery.  Would have chosen different shoes--but her hair and makeup are perfect.

BET's newest addition, news anchor T.J. Holmes, made an appearance with his wife (yes, wife!) of 1 and a half years, attorney Marilee Fiebig:

It's actually his second marriage.  T.J. said in a recent interview that he may move to NYC for his new show despite he and his wife being based in Atlanta.  Cute couple.

The newly engaged Aretha Franklin brought her fiance' William Wilkerson on the carpet.

And she posed it up with Stevie Wonder and B. Smith as well.

Spike Lee was there with wife Tonya.

BET head honcho Debra Lee wore a peacock inspired gold and green strapless dress.

Rapper Raekwon was on hand for the festivities.

And athlete and tv personality Dhani Jones hit up the event as well with a date.  The Awards tape tonight in D.C.

Gaga and Beyonc&#233; have appeared on two tracks (and in two videos) together for "Telephone" and "Video Phone."
